Name: Claire Stanfield/Vino
Series: Baccano!
When in the series are you taking your character from?: Post-series
Character's age: 27
Character's gender: Male
Physical Description: Claire is about 5' 8", with light skin, hazel eyes that have a tendency to appear red in certain dim lights, and short, slightly curly red hair. He's extremely fit, with most of his body being well-toned muscle - the result of a lifetime spent in the circus as an acrobat - although some of it has faded over time, as he no longer uses it on a daily basis, leaving him a bit thinner than he used to be. He tends to wear dark clothes that blend in well with his environment.
Personal History: Claire was born in New York City, but was orphaned when he was young. His neighbors and friends, who happened to be a mafia family, unofficially adopted him and raised him for a few years, cementing what would later be useful connections with the mafia for him. When he was about 10, he left to join the circus and became an extremely adept acrobat. For several more years he stayed there, traveling from city to city with his newfound family, until he decided to return to New York and rejoin his brothers in the mafia, quickly learning the ways of the assassin and becoming a killer for that particular mafia family.
While there's no set date or reason - possibly because of what lead him to become an orphan, or maybe something else entirely - at some point in his life, Claire, a sociopath from birth, gained an unusually skewed moral compass. He began to see the foulness of the world and the people in it while knowing that he, too, was as despicable as the worst villans, given that he killed on someone else's orders. Over time, he began to take pleasure in his murders, especially if they were of particularly evil people, and began to kill on his own for his own awkwardly moral reasons. At around the same time, he took up a job as a cross-continental railway conductor, allowing him to move from city to city with relative ease and perform his killings without much worry about the police. Under his pseudonym, Vino, Claire carried out his assassinations in cities; his murders on the trains, however, lead to the legend of Rail Tracer, a red demon who would come and kill everyone riding on a train, to come into being.
The biggest event in his life occurred in 1931, while he was serving as an operator on The Flying Pussyfoot, a train that ran from Chicago to New York overnight. Left to run the train with a partner, everything was going fine until two factions - the Lemures, seeking to gain immortality, and the Russo family, seeking to hold the train hostage for money - suddenly took violent action, threatening to kill the train's passengers. When his partner revealed himself to be one of the Lemures, Claire shot him, then turned on a third conductor who had killed Claire's railway mentor and tortured him to death for information. After that, covered in blood and using his abilities as an acrobat to mercilessly carry out his duty, Claire ran rampant along the train as Rail Tracer, slaughtering the Lemures and the Russo family as he went.
All through the night, he killed and watched people act. He saw a third group who only wanted to steal, and let them be; he saw two thieves with pure intentions and let them go; he met up with a child who was actually an immortal and wanted to kill everyone in the dining car to find one person and tortured him mercilessly; and finally, he met a mute young woman named Chane and fell absolutely, madly in love with her. He protected her from a particularly murderous member of the Russo family and asked her to marry him, then went on to continue his rampage of killings. When he returned to the train car where she'd been, she had left him a message, saying she'd meet him in Manhattan.
Finished now with carrying out his skewed morals, Claire abandoned his names and his current life and went to New York to meet up with his mafia brothers to carry out a final few jobs. Then, chasing Chane, he wen to Manhattan and started to hunt her down, going so far as to threaten an information peddler with torture or worse just to learn of her location. When she was kidnapped, he went after her and confessed his love again, earning both her trust and her love - after a fight with the kidnapper, of course. The last he knew was that he was finally, truly happy.
Personality: Claire can be categorized as something of a psychopath, given that he's almost certainly an insane murderer who takes far too much pleasure in mauling the bodies of his victims beyond recognition, particularly if he has to give it his all. It was once said about him:
Vino's killing methods are famous for being filthy. The bodies left from his killings are on the verge of complete destruction, as if they were drowned in red wine ... To fulfill his work as an assassin, he apparently can't be satisfied if he doesn't go that far.
However, he tends to only kill those assigned by the mafia (who tend, in turn, to be from other mafia families) or those he deems to be too corrupt and evil to allow continued living - through a warped and only partially functional sense of justice. He believes that pity and compassion are traits reserved for the strong, and a man with power who demonstrates them proves his greatest strength; as such, Claire can't be called completely evil. He believes that those who do wrong are going to get what's coming to them, and if he has any say in it, it'll be sooner rather than later. Related to this, his murders are often indiscriminate: age, gender, wealth, and other factors do nothing for him.
The greatest factor in Claire's personality is that he believes - honestly, genuinely believes - that he cannot be harmed or killed. Because of his strength and talent so far, he has never been harmed and never come close to death. Claire has come to believe that the world was created with him at the center: that all that happens does so purely because of and for him, and that what he can do is limited only to what he believes he can do. The world belongs to him, and even if everyone else disappears, he never will. This has lead to no small amount of arrogance, although most of the time he merely comes off as overconfident, a bit insensitive, and generally friendly.
What skills - either natural, supernatural, or developed - does your character possess? (This includes everything from fighting abilities to spells to innate traits like intelligence or strength): As both a trained acrobat and a trained assassin, Claire has almost superhuman strength, balance, speed, and flexibility. He has also learned almost innumerable methods of torture and killing and performs them quite frequently. For being a psychopath, he's highly intelligent, but most of the people he would impart his wisdom on don't live long enough to carry it with them for more than five minutes.
He also has an inexplicable ability to seem to defy graivty. Most of this is just excellent balance and superior strength, but sometimes his movements - particularly those on moving objects, or when he tends to dodge bullets - make people wonder if he is entirely human.
Your character's supernatural abilities, such as psychic powers, spells, non-human traits, etc., will be dampened or entirely removed in the mansion. In what ways will you alter their abilities or appearance upon their arrival to suit the setting?: All of Claire's key strengths will be toned down. His physical strength remains for the most part, but he can no longer carry excessive amounts of weight. Balance is hard to tone down, but he won't be able to hold himself up on narrow ledges with one hand, or other things like that. His speed will definitely be lessened: no more dodging bullets. His flexibility will remain for the most part.
While he may continue to believe that he is invincible and immortal, that isn't true. He will bleed just as easily as any other guest in the house.
